Designing ships is a difficult process that involves plenty of complex calculation and mathematics. It is naturally easy for mistakes to sneak into the mix; some which are largely harmless and others which can be fatal. In this episode of 'Design Fails' we'll explore the stories of the Hunt class destroyer escorts of the Royal Navy, the Kriegsmarin's battleship and cruiser fleet including Scharnhorst, Gneisenau, Bismarck and Tirpitz and finally the story of the Japanese torpedo boat Tomozuru whose failure was so total it caused a monumental shake-up in the Imperial Japanese navy's leadership.
