What was meant to be a relaxing winter vacation in Baja California turned into an exciting vintage shopping spree! Join me and our friend Betty R as we uncover amazing deals on everything from uranium glass to retro advertising, old books, vintage home decor, and unexpected finds—at prices that make it worth taking back to the USA! Our adventure starts at a lively weekly Mercado in Betty’s beachy community, where we score cool items like a freaky 1920s silver-plated porcupine, a ceramic Mack bulldog desk piece, and a jaw-droppingly fabulous chocolate brown panther TV lamp. This flea market street fair has it all—parrots, street food, furniture, clothes, and more—so you never know where the next treasure will pop up. A $7.50 Orrefors decanter? Yes, please! Then we hit a few bazaars in town, the first a store dedicated to antiques and vintage that is one of few in the city. A beige 1950s pay phone looks like a deal, and we have fun exploring everything from local milk bottles and 7-Up coolers to scales, bikes (I have that unicycle!), store signs and a clock from an old shop on Sunset Boulevard. In fact, this store is full of things prop departments from nearby Hollywood might use! Then, we hit a true thrift store, overflowing with glass, silver plate, and vintage kitchenware. After some digging, we find a set of vintage plates from US tourist attractions, a charming artist-signed hummingbird trivet, and more. Betty’s on the hunt for furniture, so we head to another Bazaar where we pick up a set of resin grapes, a 1960s book about India, and a cool cast-iron spider! Our final surprise stop takes us to the Tijuana Cultural Center, where a vibrant street fair offers food, new crafts, flavored Mezcal—and one booth entirely devoted to vintage goods! We walk away with a brass menorah, a Fenton compote, a fun Yosemite Sam plaque, and some Akro Agate. But the biggest surprise is a deal on a 1930s uranium glass that we can’t wait to show you! Tijuana might not be the first place you think of for antiques, but the vintage finds kept finding us. Come along as we explore the best thrift shops, bazaars, and street fairs the city has to offer! ———————————————————— ☀️ Do you want more info about an item you own? I am a certified appraiser!
