Anil Ananthaswamy is an award-winning journalist and former staff writer for New Scientist magazine. He has also written for Nature, Nautilus, Matter, The Wall Street Journal, National Geographic News, and the UK’s Literary Review. His first book, The Edge of Physics, was voted book of the year in 2010 by Physics World, and his second book, The Man Who Wasn’t There, won a Nautilus Book Award in 2015. His most recent book is just out: Through Two Doors at Once.

Anil presents the 200 year old, simple double slit experiment and hints at its profound reach, which is explored more fully in his book. In this talk, Anil walks us through the Mach-Zehnder Interferometer as the theoretical foundation for Interaction-free measurement, which he illustrates with the Elitzur–Vaidman bomb-testing problem.
