Towering above the silver river are huge, glass television studios, music venues, and hotel buildings. Walking among them, it seems impossible to envisage what came before. Yet, if you stroll along a footbridge, and stand above the water, you’ll notice the remnants of the old docks and begin to picture the ghosts of Clydebuilt ships setting sail down the Broomielaw. To the West lies Clydebank where Singer’s sewing machine factory once employed a whole town. To the East you’ll find the bright lights of the Barrowland Ballroom where generations of hard working men and women would down tools every weekend and head to “the dancing”. This song is our imaginary glimpse into the lives of these people: their mundane routines, their hopeful romances, and all their wishes and dreams as they built the ships that sailed the world.
