Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday!
Let’s talk about tiny sketchbooks and why they can be a great addition to your creative toolkit! A small sketchbook is perfect for quick, on-the-go sketches, experimenting with tools, and capturing inspiration in those "lost moments"—like during your commute or while waiting around. It’s portable, less intimidating than a big blank page, and helps you focus on the essentials of what you see.
I’ll show you a flip-through of a tiny sketchbook I used on and off for six years. This sketchbook has no branding, but its small size and features, like an elastic band, made it a favorite. I preferred using pencils, colored pencils, and my trusty rainbow pencil (for example, Koh-i-Noor). While I occasionally used pens, the thin paper meant ink would often bleed through, so I stuck to dry media most of the time.
You’ll see how even small, quick drawings can build a habit of sketching regularly and how these little pages can become a space for playful experimentation. Whether you have a small sketchbook or any size: use your sketchbook to capture moments without overthinking.
This week’s assignment: grab your sketchbook (any size!) and try quick, loose sketches. Focus on capturing the essence of what you see rather than perfect details. It’s all about having fun, practicing, and embracing the process!
Materials I used:
-Unbranded tiny sketchbook
-Pencils
-Colored pencils
-Rainbow pencil (e.g., Koh-i-Noor)
-Occasionally pen (despite ink bleeding through)
