Hello everyone!
I had the idea for these strawberry pins about a month ago and I really wanted to share with all of you before summer was out because I think a lot of you are like me and you're probably always on the lookout for unique handmade gift ideas that aren't tacky and super time-consuming. These sweet little strawberry pins are the perfect gift for almost anyone who enjoys crafting or sewing - and even for a lot of folks who don't do those things -these could be enjoyed by people who collect vintage items or by all the strawberry collectors out there (and I know quite a few!)
This is the simplest, fastest, and easiest spun cotton make I've shared so far - very doable for older children who can be trusted with a straight pin :) and so quick to come together that you can make a nice little batch of them in an afternoon.
You can find a photo blog tutorial for these pins here: https://sweethavensanctuary.org/rosannas-blog/2024/7/18/quick-and-easy-spun-cotton-strawberry-sewing-pins
I've added chapters and hope they will soon "appear" - not sure what is going on with them but they aren't visible at the time of posting this video but below are the time stamps
00:00 - Start
00:28 - intro
02:07 - supplies needed
04:50 - supply list slide (pause to view)
04:55 - getting started - wrapping the pin with foil
06:20 - applying the cotton
09:16 - answering some questions about drying spun cotton pieces
10:46 - painting the red part of the berry
12:30 - making the fabric tops or leaves
16:48 - painting the seeds
19:11 - Nettie adding seeds and talking about sealants
21:01 - attaching tops and adding stems
25:39 - adding Mod Podge sealant
27:28 - ideas for gifting these strawberry pins
30:58 - final words
There is nothing groundbreaking in the method for making these strawberries - I share this tutorial mostly because I had never thought to embellish a straight pin this way and they really are so easy to do and turn out so cute that I wanted to encourage the rest of you to give it a try - you wouldn't have to do strawberries, I think pumpkins would be cute for fall.. and of course I'm thinking about trying hens soon, haha :)
I hope this gives you lots of ideas and inspiration and I hope many of you will have a little patch of strawberries popping up on your pin cushion or might gift some to friends. Who doesn't need some tiny strawberries in their life??
Please leave comments and questions below (and if you have criticisms please present them courteously)
Many thanks for watching, liking, and subscribing!
Happy making!
