Celebrated Carnatic musician TM Krishna has written a new book on caste discrimination against the mostly Dalit makers of the Mridangam. His boo, 'Sebastian and Sons' explores the distance between the player and the maker of his instrument and lifts the veil of silence over many unknown facts including that the mridangam is made from 3 animal hides, including cow skin.
