RATING: PG-13/12A - FOR: Disturbing/Frightening Imagery, Thematic Material, Intense Action Sequences, and Some Language
SYNOPSIS: Ever since Montague’s defeat, Tobias the Hybrid Tram Engine has been feeling very confident about himself. More and more diesels are working on the island, and he even has a branch line of his own. However, not all engines strictly agree with Toby and his willingness to accept diesels, and Henrietta faces her own troubles of trust and acceptance.
Then, a wrench is thrown into Toby’s life when Oliver returns. Most of the engines abhor his presence on Sodor. Even Henrietta has doubts, but Toby takes it upon himself to give him a second chance. However, Oliver’s dark past and his plans are slowly brought to light, and everything that defines Toby for who he is is thrown into question with the re-emergence of Oliver’s oldest ally.
Now, Sodor is falling apart at the seams, and Toby’s very life is on the line. And it will take all of his strength to reclaim his soul from the Arcane Merchant.

So...
It took me a little over 10 years, but as the title of that Thomas episode goes, "Better late than never!"
A lot has changed since I first uploaded "Tobias and the Half-Pariah" back on August 24, 2014. I attended a 4 year college for a film produciton degree, and well, if you're any kind of young person in this world, you know how fraught and difficult and absolutely insane the job market is right now. I was lucky - I was employed during college in the Thomas Creator Collective, doing filming, editing, and music work for Mattel for the official Thomas and Friends YouTube channel, and this job continued for a little while after I graduated college in May of 2018, but it certainly didn't pay enough with my student loan payments coming up.
So, I took a local retail job in October 2018, and by the end of April 2019, the very weekend "Avengers: Endgame" came out in theaters, I had been saddled with an awful, debilitating double herniated disc injury in my lower spine. That was a really dark, painful time. For that first month in May 2019, I couldn't walk, stand, sit, or even lay down in certain positions without being in extreme pain. I got better eventually, and returned to my retail job in January 2020.
Then March 2020 - hello Covid.
I worked through Covid in this retail job and every day I could feel my soul dying - that god dam JOB man - it was killing so much of my drive and motivation to work on this thing.
But I kept applying for proper film production jobs. In 2021, I picked up a few freelance gigs, as a photo editor for one retail chain, and then as a YouTube editor for a few YouTube channels. And then, in October 2021, I was offered a part-time job as a videographer for QVC in West Chester, PA. I quit my retail job that same week and have never looked back.
And let me all tell you, you haven't experienced rejuvenation until you get a new job that you absolutely LOVE. I started learning so much - about cameras, lighting, audio recording - and everything I learned bolstered my work on this film, which then bolstered my work at QVC, and it became this feedback loop of learning and improvement in my skill and craft.
I'm employed there full time now - And it's been a big challenge finishing this film while working full time, but as you call can see, I've done it!
Thank you to those who've waited these past 10+ years - and thank you to all the new folks who are just joining us on this wild ride. Just - thank you everybody.
I hope this project was worth the wait.
