Togoshi Ginza shotengai is said to be Tokyo’s longest shopping street with 1.3 kilometers of shops. And while several shopping streets across Japan have adopted “Ginza” in their name, Togoshi Ginza is said to be the first and only one with a direct connection to the original Ginza shopping district in Tokyo. After the Great Kanto Earthquake struck in 1923, bricks from the rubble of Ginza’s disaster-struck buildings were used to pave the streets in Togoshi, and the name “Ginza” was also added for luck as the upscale shopping district had a prosperous image. Now, Togoshi Ginza Shopping Street is a pleasant area to stroll around, with unobstructed views of the sky thanks to the lack of power lines. The area’s mascot Gin-chan can be spotted along the shopping street at several points, and there is an abundance of street food in Togoshi Ginza to try, from the classic croquette (korokke) to baked goods. ________________________________________ TOGOSHI GINZA LOCATIONS & FOODS: Beicon (2-6-3 Togoshi, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo) - Gluten-free oyaki - Gluten-in curry bread - Gluten-free baked chocolate donut Goto Kamabokoten (2-6-8 Togoshi, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo) - Oden croquette Pan no Harimaya (2-7-5 Togoshi, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo) - Gin-chan muffin Nakamura Tadashi Shoten (1-5-2 Yutakacho, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo) - Croquette - Menchi katsu Togoshi Ginza's Milkman (1-4-11 Yutakacho, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo) - Coffee milk Togoshi Hachiman Shrine (2-6-23 Togoshi, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo) ________________________________________ TOGOSHI GINZA ACCESS INFO: 25 minutes from Shinjuku Station: Take the JR Yamanote Line to Gotanda Station Transfer to the Tokyo Metro Ikegami Line or Asakusa Line and get off at Togoshi Ginza Station 15 minutes from Shibuya Station Take the JR Yamanote Line to Gotanda Station Transfer to the Tokyo Metro Ikegami Line or Asakusa Line and get off at Togoshi Ginza Station ________________________________________ ABOUT BYFOOD: ByFood is Japan’s one-stop platform for foodie travelers.
