In this episode of Tom Talks, we take a close look and dive into the history of one of the most significant cars McLaren Automotive has ever produced – the 2012 McLaren P1 XP2R. This chassis was pivotal in creating what is now celebrated as one of the greatest hypercars of all time. From its rigorous testing days, which included its role finalising critical innovations like active aerodynamics, Pirelli tyre tuning, and the revolutionary Race Mode to its most famous moment as a Works car, which was that famous sub-7-minute lap time around the Nürburgring, an incredible feat at the time and a real coup for McLaren Automotive. After its life as a ‘Works car’, XP2R was stripped back to its carbon fibre monocoque and rebuilt by McLaren Automotive to the very latest and most updated specification, but by retaining its chassis identity, it retains all of the history that it created as a Works development car. Today, its presented in the stunning Supernova Silver Metallic and accompanied by its matching XP2R rolling chassis which retains the original Nürburgring bodywork and engine, a real bonus for any mancave! Join us as we explore the incredible legacy of this unique machine and why it remains a standout amongst all other McLaren P1s.
