#SpongeBobSquarePants is one of the most popular and influential cartoons on Nickelodeon, and has a storied legacy of ups and downs. Starting in the late 90's, it would appeal to both kids and adults like few shows before it ever had with its quirky, surreal, and memetic humor leading it to cultural dominance. To this day, Nickelodeon has not found a show whose popularity could eclipse it. And as such, they've made many mistakes capitalizing on the property. #Nickelodeon demanded more and more episodes, that combined with much of the old guard moving onto new projects like Chowder or Phineas and Ferb, a lack of experience caused the show to go through a dark age of several seasons of falling quality. However, many of the people who originally made the show great came back around season 9, after the second movie, and gave a new breath of fresh air that the series desperately needed.
