First up at number 3 is the 3L duramax diesel inline-6 engine in the chevy 1500 trucks. I really like this engine because of the strong internals, and the inline-6 engine design. I think this engine gives a ton of benefits including power and torque but is also extremely fuel efficient. I think GM did a great job trying to address the need for a powerful yet efficient truck in the segmen t and this little diesel engines is a fanrtastic option.
Next at number 2 is the 2.7L ecoboost engine. this little engine is not going to the blow the doors of anybody or tow the biggest trailer but ford has put together a fantastic base level engine in my opinion. the amount of strength in this engines bottom end is fantastic with fully forged internals and Copact graphite iron engine block with fractures main caps, off-set connecting rods, the list just keeps on going.
This ecoboost engine really surprised me and coming into its 10th year of production it has proven to be a very reliable option which is why I wouldn't hesitate to have a 2.7L ecoboost in my truck.
Lastly and my number 1 engine option in the 1500 truck segment is the 5L coyote V8 engine. I think this engine is by far the most reliable engine seeing we don't have turbo to worry about, no emission to worry about and this naturally asperated V8 does not have valve train issues like the other N/A V8s in the segment.
I think the 5L is an incredibly well rounded engine, with tons of power, great towing ability, reliable its very efficient and has been around for almost 15 years giving ford a great chance to perfect this little 5L V8 engine for the F150 trucks.
