Heavy Train Attacks Curvy Hill & Train Stalls On The Grade! Locomotive Wheels Slipping On The Rails And Spinning. This Is Really Awesome With Classic General Electric & EMD Locomotives Working Hard. Short Line Railroad Action At Its Best. This is a Norfolk Southern line that used to be a main line between Cincinnati and Portsmouth, Ohio. That is why the line has heavy welded rail with thick ballast and numerous line side signals that go back to the Norfolk & Western Railway days. Today the line is a branch line that is cut on its eastern end. The last 20 or so miles were donated to the state so it no longer has a connection to Portsmouth. 69 route miles of the line are leased to Cincinnati Eastern Railroad CCET with the possibility of another nearly 5 miles being reactivated for car storage. I would love to see that happen. This video shows a heavy train of rock and grain being moved westbound. I got the train in Mt Orab and Williamsburg, Ohio. The locomotives are a GE B36-7 and an EMD GP15-1. Where else can you see a lash-up like that? It is rare to see a B36-7 in use today. If you know where I can film one in use please leave a comment. First, we see the whole train pass me at a railroad crossing in Mt Orab, Ohio. Then, I chased it to the next town which is Williamsburg, Ohio. This is where the hill is. The hill is steep and curvy. N&W and NS have had troubles on this hill. I have seen it. I have seen quite a few trains stall on this hill. We see most of the train pass me before it comes to a stop. After the train stopped it was reversed a short distance and then cut into two pieces. The first piece was taken a few miles west to Afton Yard and left on a siding. We see the locomotives return light and then take the rest of the train to Afton Yard. The wheels were slipping a little under the weight but once it started rolling they got the job done. Railroading is a challenge and a lot of hard work. This video shows a little of the tough side of railroading. It was just before dark and the crew was ready to head home. After the train was moved to Afton Yard the crew shut down for the day. Don't miss the Live Action Pets & the slide show that comes from the video near the end.
