In this video we visit Roxburgh Park, the penultimate station on the Craigieburn Line in Melbourne;s outer northern suburbs. Here we see some Metro Comeng and Siemens trains arriving and departing the station, and some passing V/Line trains on the Seymour/Shepparton Line, including a Sprinter and N Class locomotive N467 hauling an up-Shepparton train towards Melbourne.
Afterwards we see some buses at the adjacent bus interchange. Roxburgh Park is served by routes 484, 541, 542, 543, 544, and the 901 Smartbus operated by CDC Melbourne (Tullamarine), Dysons, Kinetic, and Kastoria. Buses seen include Scania K310UB's, Mercedes Benz O405NH's, Mercedes Benz O500LE's, Scania K230UB's, and more.
Buses in Roxburgh Park will soon undergo a major shakeup commencing on the 1st July 2025 when the new Zero Emissions Bus Franchises come into effect. From this date all routes serving Roxburgh Park (bar the 901 operated by Kinetic) will be operated by CDC Melbourne, after they won the contract to operate the 'dark blue' region which takes into much of north and north-west Melbourne.
Roxburgh Park station opened on the 30th September 2007 when the line was electrified from Broadmeadows to Craigieburn. It's actually the second station to have been built in the area; with Somerton station having once existed nearby between 15th May 1881 - 6 December 1960.
The station is a nice station to do some trainspotting as there's plenty of good open angles to photo/film trains from, including unobstructed views of the adjacent North East standard gauge line. Despite this I consider Roxburgh Park to be one of my least favourite stations in Melbourne due to it's prison-like appearance and relatively poor upkeep. The station is full of exposed concrete on a rather simplistic design; giving it a brutalist-like appearance without any architectural flare. It's grey and boring; it's as though they stopped constructing the station mid-way through and just called it a day. Not to mention it's quite exposed to the elements in sections. The station also interacts poorly with the surrounding area with a lack of direct and attractive pedestrian links to surrounding shops. It's certainly not the best place to wait for a train.
