Days 4-6: Journey From Banjarmasin to Balikpapan
The Expedition continues from Banjarmasin to Tanjung and later to Balikpapan, aiming to meet the deadline of celebrating Indonesia's National Day on August 17th, 2025, and witness the grand opening of Nusantara, the new capital of Indonesia.
Nestled in the heart of Indonesia's South Kalimantan province, the Banjarmasin Floating Market is a vibrant, colorful spectacle that takes place on the Martapura River. At the break of dawn, the river comes alive with a bustling flurry of activity as traders in traditional wooden boats, called jukung, gather to sell their goods. Visiting the Banjarmasin Floating Market is an unforgettable experience, a picturesque journey back in time where the river is both a lifeline and a marketplace, connecting the community in a way that is as beautiful as it is practical.
We were hosted for lunches and dinners by IOF Kalimantan Selatan, Tabalong Adventure Club in Tanjung, and IOF Balikpapan, who warmly welcomed all our expedition vehicles. This truly showcases the friendship and collaboration from the Indonesian 4x4 communities.
The Expedition also experienced the first of eight RORO ferry crossings from the Port of Penajam to Balikpapan across the Balikpapan Bay, awakening the spirits of adventure for all members!
