The investigation led police to convicted criminal Philip Partin, who had given Jooshen a ride and was the last person to see her alive. Despite a lack of confession, forensic evidence linking Partin to the crime scene led to his conviction for first-degree murder and initial death sentence, later commuted to life in prison.
