🔔 MOCĂNIȚA (VIȘEUL DE SUS)
One of the most important cultural and technical values of the country, Mocănița from Vişeu de Sus is the last steam forest railway in the world. Built as a more favorable technical solution for the transport of wood material than by water, the forest railway still operates today, both for its original role and for the transport of tourists.
Work on the railway began in 1932 and was carried out according to the Austro-Hungarian model, with a narrow gauge.

🔔 BÂRSANA MONASTERY
is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Maramures. But although it receives a lot of visitors daily, few know the true history of the place. There are 2 settlements in Barsana: the monastery and the wooden church, a UNESCO heritage site.
The Barsana village is attested starting with 1326 when on September 26. King Carol Robert issues a diploma by which the rights of possession over the Barsana estate are strengthened. Other documents from 1390 attest for the first time to the existence of a church here in Barsana. They describe the road that forks, one side leading to the village, and the other to the beautiful monastery.
🔔 POIENILE DE SUB MUNTE
Poienile de sub Munte is the village of residence of the commune of the same name in Maramureș County, Transylvania, Romania. It is the residence of Poliane pid Horoiu, which has no other component villages. The old name of the locality is Poienile Rusului.
🔔 THE WOODEN CHURCH IN POIENILE IZEI
Also known as the wooden church in Poienile Glodului, it was included in the UNESCO heritage in December 1999, just like the other seven places of worship in Maramureș located in the world cultural circuit.
The wooden church in Poienile Izei was built in 1632 by the inhabitants of the village of Poienile Izei, documented in 1430 (according to the Maramurese Diplomas of November 24, 1430, June 18, 1450 and June 22, 1458).
Over the centuries, the locality was called, in turn, Poienile lui Ilies, Poienile Şieului, Poienile Glodului.
The first church, according to the documents of the time, was built here in 1604. Experts in old Maramurese architecture claim that the church was built before the 15th century, because wooden Maramurese churches built after the 15th century generally have the five-sided altar and a more advanced architectural form.
It should be noted that the archaic form of jointing of the beams (right-double cheotore) has been replaced by the dovetail (blockbau).
