This latest move comes in response to the European Union’s announcement of tariffs on $28 billion worth of U.S. goods, including a hefty 50% tariff on American whiskey. Trump fired back, urging the EU to remove its tariff on whiskey, warning that without action, the U.S. would "shortly place" its own tariffs on European alcohol products. He didn’t hold back, calling the EU "one of the most hostile and abusive taxing and tariffing authorities in the world." Meanwhile, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen defended the EU’s stance, stating that the bloc "must act to protect consumers and businesses." As tensions rose, the markets reacted swiftly. Stock futures tumbled early Thursday.
