Tuning a fountain pen nib requires three steps that are explained in the video:
1: properly align the tines
2: make sure the slit width is correct
3: smooth the tip
Often when you get a new fountain pen, it doesn't write well. This is especially frustrating for first-time users. I threw away a TWSBI Mini once because I got so angry with getting it to write well! If only I had known then how to adjust the nib. Tuning, polishing, sanding, smoothing, aligning, etc. This requires careful and nimble handwork, but can become routine and easy when you're used to it. So don't be afraid to try this out with a cheaper pen. The pen in the video is a Franklin Covey Freemont which was about $25 USD.
