Two large pieces of a Tunnel Boring Machine are transported through North Wales under escort from police. Traffic is held as one large segment navigates it's way through a village near Porthamdog. Throughout November, segments of a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) named 'Buddug' were transported to an area of the Eryri National Park (previously Snowdonia). The transport of the Herrenknecht Tunnel Boring Machine from Germany was handled by Fracht Group on behalf of Hochtief and National Grid. Trucks from Transport-Service-Beitinger (TSB) were escorted through North Wales by Titus Newsom Ltd and North Wales Police, due to the size of the oversize load. Another wide load had to stop and wait for the convoy to pass through the village of Penmorfa, the tightest point in the route. Once assembled, Buddug will be 66 metres long and weigh 436 tonnes. The TBM will bore a tunnel under the Dwyryd Estuary in order to bury 3km of high voltage cable as part of the Visual Impact Provision (VIP) project. The cables currently span pylons above ground in an area of the national park. Only 8 required a full police escort while others required a partial police escort. We were not able to film them all due to delays.
