Liverpool head coach Arne Slot admitted that visitors Paris Saint-Germain had been the better side in extra-time of Tuesday's Champions League clash before winning a penalty shoot-out 4-1 to reach the quarter-finals.

Having lost the first leg at Parc des Princes 1-0 against the run of play, PSG levelled the round of 16 tie 12 minutes into the second leg at Anfield through Ousmane Dembele.

Neither side could manage a winning goal in the remainder of the match, but Liverpool players Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones failed to convert their spot kicks in the ensuing shoot-out, which PSG won when 19-year-old Desire Doue slotted home.

It was a disappointing end to the campaign for Liverpool, who had finished top of the League phase of this season's Champions League, but runaway Premier League leaders can bounce back and collect their first silverware of the season in Sunday's League Cup final against Newcastle United at Wembley Stadium.
