Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson sees industrial cooperation on defense projects as a way to quickly increase crucial military support for Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression. Speaking to DW’s Teri Schultz, Jonson praised the speed and innovation of Ukrainian defense production. Europe had to quickly increase its own military production and capabilities, he said. There needed to be “more Europe within NATO”. At the same time, he called for Ukraine to become an ally within Europe - the perspective that Ukraine could join both NATO and the European Union should be retained. In talks about a possible peace deal for Ukraine, the country should be helped to negotiate from a position of strength. That includes a dialogue between Europe and the United States: the more European and American positions were aligned, the more pressure there would be on Russia, he said.
