This beautiful rendition of Verdi's "Un ballo in maschera" is quite unique because it uses the original swedish setting of the opera and has king Gustavo III as the protagonist (which in the official libretto was changed to Riccardo, the count of Warwick, to avoid censorship issues).
This is also one of the last public performances from the great russian baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky, before his premature death in 2017. In this production, he is accompanied by an amazing Piotr Beczala (as Gustavo) and the soprano Krassimira Stoyanova (as Amelia).
