Restoring a Defective Citizen Diver’s Watch | Caliber 8200 Movement | Full Watch Restoration
I bought this Citizen Diver’s Watch on eBay for just €44, sold as defective with the seller joking that only magic could bring it back to life. Challenge accepted! 😊
About the Watch & Movement:
This rugged diver is powered by the reliable Citizen Caliber 8200 automatic movement, known for its durability and solid performance. The model is a classic example of Citizen’s affordable yet robust dive watches, popular among enthusiasts for everyday wear and vintage appeal.
Restoration Details:
- The watch arrived extremely dirty and heavily rusted inside and out
- I cleaned every part multiple times to remove rust and corrosion
- The bezel insert and crystal were replaceable, which helped in the restoration
- Previous polishing had severely damaged the bezel and case edges
- I used a lapping machine to re-cut and sharpen the bezel and case edges, restoring the watch’s original shape
- This restoration took several months, testing my skills and patience, especially on the rusty case
Watch the full process of bringing this battered diver back to life—from teardown and cleaning to case refinishing and movement servicing.
