This video is the first part of a documentary series about the migration route that many take from South America in their attempt to reach the United States. In this installment, I share my experience trying to cross the dangerous Darien Gap, from the Colombian jungle to the Panamanian border. This is one of the most dangerous places in the world for migrants, and during my journey, I faced numerous challenges, from the hostile terrain to the constant risk of being discovered while secretly filming a documentary.
This series was born after I recorded a video in Colombia about the largest settlement of Venezuelans in Latin America, an experience that motivated me to continue documenting the harsh realities faced by migrants on their journey north.
In this report, you can see the adversities that migrants face when crossing this dangerous route: from the threat of armed groups to the harsh natural conditions of the jungle. I had to escape to avoid being discovered by those who didn't want me documenting what really happens in this region.
