During our trip to Wyoming in July of 2024 to chase Big Boy, we also shot video of several Union Pacific freight trains between Rawlins, Wyoming and Cheyenne. This line is part of the Overland Route between Chicago and San Francisco. Specifically, the track between Rawlins and Cheyenne is UP’s Laramie Subdivision.
This rarely visited portion of the Overland Route sees over fifty trains per day. The double track main line follows the route of the Overland Stage which crossed the Continental Divide three times through Wyoming's Great Divide Basin.
