Today I did a chase of the activities of the sole job that is based out of Union Pacific's J Yard, YJY68. Today's work consisted of switching one customer, and then performing interchange with at Union Pacific's 4th Street Yard. Power today was UP 1150, an EMD GP60.
I started off at J Yard, where the train did basic switching the acquire its cars to spot, two empty gondolas to drop off at SA Recycling on the LA Times Spur. This industry is served on an as needed basis, so I was really lucky that this train ran at all on trackage previously thought abandoned after the shutdown of the LA Times printing plant on the top of the lead. I then caught the train at various locations on the spur, including switching at the recycling facility, where the train pulled out two loaded gondolas full of scrap metal from auto parts such as rotors and engine blocks. They then shoved in the two empty gondolas.
My next shot was at CP West Redondo, where I caught the train on three lines at the same time; coming off the LA Times Lead, shortly using the Wilmington Subdivision, and then ultimately diverging onto the Alameda Corridor to head to 4th Street Yard.
At 4th Street Yard on the Metrolink River Subdivision, the train dropped off the two loaded gondolas, and did a lengthy session of switching to pick up various cars for J Yard, most of which would be spotted at industries the next day. I caught this train a final time at Redondo Junction at CP East Redondo diverging off the sharp curve on the River Sub, as it headed back down the corridor to pull back out to J Yard where they would finish for the day. Thanks for watching!
