Units are one of the most important aspects of mathematical modelling and provide a simple self-consistency check. Here we emphasize the importance of units and describe the process of removing units from a model altogether. This process is called nondimensionalization and its allows one to "clean up" a model by moving to natural length and time scales.
The watcher interested in further dimensional analysis and removing units is referred to the Buckingham pi theorem: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buckingham_%CF%80_theorem
