“Universe at War: Earth Assault” from 2007 is a very good real-time strategy game by former Westwood employees, and you can feel the old Command & Conquer charm in many places. There are a few interesting peculiarities of the various factions that I have never seen in other RTS games, such as the fast travel function via overhead lines in the Novus faction or the upgradeable walkers of the Hierarchy faction. However, there are also weaknesses in the campaign, or rather a strange inhomogeneity: in the last missions with the Masari faction, the game switches to a global campaign mode with skirmish battles, which is a boring hybrid of the Total War games and old C&C games. I assume this was a field test by the developers for possible future games in the franchise. Unfortunately, a sequel was never produced. I summarize the story in my video using the cutscenes and lots of gameplay.
