Sri Vedantha Desikar Devasthanam

Sri Vedantha Desikar Devasthanam

The Sri Vedanta Desikar Temple, located in the Mylapore area of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, is dedicated to the revered Sri Vaishnavite philosopher and theologian, Vedanta Desika. This temple holds significant importance in the Vaishnavite tradition and is a prominent landmark in Mylapore.

The temple's origins trace back several centuries, initially enshrining only Swami Desikan. In 1924, under the guidance of Sri Kasturi Iyengar, shrines for Lord Srinivasa Perumal and Goddess Padmavathi Thayar were added, enhancing the temple's significance.

The temple features a main sanctum housing the idol of Lord Srinivasa Perumal, which is noted for its resemblance to the deity's idol in the Tirumala temple. Adjacent to this sanctum is a shrine dedicated to Goddess Padmavathi Thayar. Other notable shrines within the temple complex include those for Swami Desikan, Lakshmi Hayagrivar, Anjaneyar (Hanuman), Garuda, Peyalwar, and Andal.
