Basic Cruising with Owen

Hello, welcome to my Basic Sailing Cruising channel. My name is Owen Smith, my degree is in Engineering Physics from UBC, and I've been a Sail Canada Cruising Instructor since 1999. Here I’m putting into video the lectures that I normally do on a 5-day Cruise ‘n Learn trip that I skipper as an Instructor for Cooper Boating in Vancouver, BC. A Cruise 'n Learn trip consists of 5 days living on a cruising yacht, and covers many topics such as safety, boat handling, hands-on sailing practice, anchoring, etc.. The topics I cover here include the physics of sailing, basic sail trim, Collision Regulations and Rules of the road, basic coastal navigation, knots and other topics. Sail Canada defines standards for Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Cruising courses. These lectures are mainly for Basic Cruising, but I'll also include some advanced topics. I'll start with the physics of sailing and go on from there. In the future I hope to add some on the water lessons like docking and anchoring.
