Wickfield Lane is my OO gauge layout based on the BR period from the 70’s through to privatisation in the 90’s.
The first layout (Oil Terminal) was scrapped and a second layout was started in 2023 consisting of a Main line which has a branch line joining and a level crossing as the main feature. The layout is controlled from a Signal box lever frame system using DCC Concepts Cobalt-S levers and combined with a MCB control panel.
The countryside scene is inspired from Cowley Bridge Junction just north of Exeter in the Devon countryside.
The new layout has a branch line coming over the bridge and joins the main line. Loco’s and wagons are mainly freight from the Barnstaple and Exeter region.
The name ‘Wickfield Lane’ comes from where I lived on a farm near Royal Wootton Basset. The narrow lane which runs south from the A3102 ‘Sally Pussey’s Inn’ towards the railway and the ‘Swindon Road over bridge’ at ‘Brunel’s cutting’ which is marked as 81 37, is known as ‘Wickfield Lane’
