The Amateur

Classically trained musician turned happy amateur, and no matter how hard I try, I just can’t quit music. 🎶 On this channel, I share commentary on the music I love, often with a hearty helping of history. I proudly embrace my role in the “music appreciation racket,” a title gifted by the ever-acerbic Virgil Thomson.

This all started in 2011 with my Well-Tempered Clavier Project (WTC Project), back when Tumblr was buzzing. My wild idea? To claw my way back into shape after 15 years away from the piano by learning and recording all 48 preludes and fugues from Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier. Five-and-a-half years later, mission accomplished!

After a few detours and some time wandering in the YouTube wilderness, I’ve found my groove again—talking to anyone who’ll listen about the music that fuels my passion.

If you’re into great music, history, and a little fun along the way, welcome to The Amateur. And if you like what you see and hear… hit that subscribe button, DAMMIT! 😉
