Venice, Los Angeles – Friday, November 15, 2024 — During the weekly cleanup operation at Venice Beach, Los Angeles Park Rangers, LAPD officers, and sanitation workers encountered homeless individuals camping along the beachfront. Park Rangers instructed the campers to move their belongings away from the area or face having them discarded. While some complied, others did not, prompting the sanitation workers to remove and discard the remaining items.
The coordinated cleanup effort, aimed at maintaining public safety and cleanliness, extended to the beach and surrounding areas. Led by Los Angeles Park Rangers with support from the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works, LA County Beaches and Harbors, the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, and Clean Harbors Environmental Inc., the initiative focused on clearing encampments and ensuring sanitary conditions along the popular beachfront.
Park Rangers were present to enforce Los Angeles Municipal Code 63.44, which prohibits camping structures and tents in city parks. No citations were issued during the operation, emphasizing the city’s compassionate approach to managing public spaces and addressing homelessness. A representative from Councilwoman Traci Park’s office, who frequently backs these cleanup efforts, was also on site.
The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) contributed essential support during the operation, providing food, water, and hygiene kits to those in need.
