This is a recording of a webinar hosted by the University of Florida Honey Bee Research and Extension Laboratory on February 22, 2017. In the webinar we discuss a ruling from the US Food and Drug Administration that went into effect on January 1, 2017. This ruling requires beekeepers to obtain a prescription or Veterinary Feed Directive from a licensed veterinarian to use certain antibiotic medications on their honey bee colonies. This webinar was made for veterinarians and, in addition to the FDA ruling, discusses honey bee biology, the prevalence of and regulations surrounding American foulbrood in Florida, and the signs of American foulbrood in honey bee colonies.
