The Via Dolorosa, established by Franciscan monks, is used to assist pilgrims in meditating on the path of the cross walked by Jesus. When pilgrims arrive in Jerusalem, they often walk this traditional Via Dolorosa to meditate on Jesus's sacrifice. This tradition began in the 16th century and is not the actual Via Dolorosa. With more archaeological discoveries, the actual path of the Via Dolorosa can be speculated. However, regardless of where Jesus truly carried the cross, the most important thing is to commemorate and appreciate His sacrifice for us with a grateful heart ❤️.
