General Sir Hugh Henry Gough VC
General Sir Charles Gough VC
Brig-General John Gough VC
Their military service record reads like a roll call of the British Army campaigns in the late 19th and early 20th century.
The 2nd Anglo-Sikh War
The Indian Mutiny
The Duar War (Anglo-Bhutan)
The Abyssinia Expedition 1868
The 2nd Anglo-Afghan War (and the battle of Kandahar)
The British Occupation of Crete
The Mahdist War in Sudan
The Boer War (Anglo-Boer War) in South Africa
The Dervish rebellion in British Somaliland
The Curragh Incident (Curragh Mutiny)
The First World War
Bot only are the Gough's the only family to have ever been awarded 3 Victoria Crosses but Charles &John are one of only three father-son VC recipients too.
And whilst these three members of the family have a special place in the history of the British Army and also of the Victoria Cross, they are just part of a family who provided well over a century of service to their country.
Charles &Hugh Gough's great uncle was Field Marshall Viscount Gough, who commanded the British during the Anglo-Sikh wars.
John's brother, Hubert, was a general during World War 1.

My name is Chris Green and I love to share stories from British history. Not just because they are interesting but because, good or bad, they have shaped the world we live in today.
History should not be stuffy or a long list of dates or kings & queens.
So rather than lectures or Youtube animations, I tell stories that bring the past to life.
My aim is to be chat as if I were having a coffee or meal with you. Jean in Maryland, USA recently wrote: "Chris, is the history teacher I wish I had at school!"
Just for the record, I do have a history degree in Medieval & Modern history from the University of Birmingham.
