Viking Wooden Chest,#Oseberg,#Hedeby#Mastermyr- Blacksmithing, Woodworking With Hand Tools.
In this video I spent several weeks of my spare time putting together this wonderful Viking Age inspired wooden chest. The chest is based on some of the Chests found on the Oseberg Viking Ship. I forged my own nails and hinges, and used one board to make the entire box. In the end I decided to use a seperate piece of wood for the lid as the design I was basing my Chest from required a slightly curved lid.
It took me many evcening and lots of practice to forge all the nails needed in this project. Eventually I wass able to aquire some new tools and new skills to complete this task.
The hardest part of this build was the fitting of each individual part to the next. I build this chest the same traditional way a Viking craftsman. They did not have exact measurements but instead fit each part of the chest to the next piece based of of how much material was available from one log. In my case i used a single board.
