Triple cranksets - really popular in the `90`s but they have been around on the vintage scene for many years - with French maker Stronglight nailing it with the 49 d and later 90 models - neat, compact and vintage looking with a rally wide range of gearing - so why don`t all bikes have them?
Its not as simple as that - issues with chainlines, clearance and cage depth can make settup really tricky - plus you need a different length bottom bracket spindle and wider throw front derailleur - so, worth doing?
To be honest we often shy away from triple cranksets but in this video we check out a rather cool early 60`s Coppi Fiorelli race bike built up with a Stronglight triple crankset - and its rides really well - bit of a suprise all round!
*Note - I think the Strada Bianchi at L`Eroica a few weeks ago damged te camera - I tried to edit the dodgy sync halfway through but nothing could be done, apologies...
