Construction of the station began in September 1855 and was completed in October 1857, when the city of Wroclaw (German: Breslau) was part of the Kingdom of Prussia. The new station was then located on the outskirts of the city, its surroundings were not yet built up. In 1899-1904, the station was expanded, preserving a significant part of the existing structure. During World War II, concrete warehouses and shelters were built under the station square.
During World War II, the station building received damage, which was repaired in 1949. Since 1947, the station cinema operated in the station building.
