Powell Street is one of my favorite streets to walk in San Francisco. With its notoriously steep hill, it can be both exciting and daunting at the same time. I enjoy challenging my stamina from time to time and walking hilly Powell Street is always a test as to how far I can push myself.
Also, I always find walking Powell Street a unique experience. If you head away from Downtown as I usually do (except this walk for a change), you’d feel the fascinating shift in atmosphere transitioning from a bustling urban vibe in Union Square to a quieter, almost suburban feel of old-looking bars & restaurants even though you can still hear and see the cable cars passing by.
Well tonight I thought the combination of nighttime and rain would be perfect for a walk- and it was until a heavy downpour and fierce winds nearly destroyed my umbrella. It was still a nice walk though. This iconic SF street always gives me a sense of old Hollywood vibe that it’s as if I was in a 1960s movie. Ugh, I loved this walk even with its dreaded steep hill.
