Birjand coverd market is located in the old fabric of this city and is undoubtedly the most alive beating heart of the city. The old market of Birjand has an old texture and has a variety of products with good quality and reasonable prices. You can buy local products here at a cheap price. The old market of Birjand is the largest traditional market in the east of Iran. The pure aroma of saffron, medicinal herbs and other agricultural products of South Khorasan province can still be smelled throughout this traditional market, don't miss the experience of walking in this market. Since ancient times, this market has been a place to buy and sell local products such as saffron, barberry, jujube, dried berries, peach and apricot leaves, carpets, giveh, wheat, barley, lentils, beans, chickpeas, katyra, tangerine, Ferula(or kama) ,etc. The plant Ferula with the local name of kama grows in this area. Koma plant is a plant resistant to the stresses of water scarcity, hot and dry winds, and semi-desert land with little productivity, which has adapted to the climatic conditions of South Khorasan. People find and collect this plant in the deserts and then sell it in this market. And this is one of the traditional dishes of Birjand, which is made with potatoes, onions and spices.
