On May 17, 2024, undercover officers observed 3 individuals on a boat hauling in shrimp pots and immediately returning to shore. Adding to it, eyewitnesses reportedly observed the individuals behaving similarly earlier in the day. In the state of Washington, the maximum legal limit for shrimp is 80 per person. As officers with the Department of Fish and Wildlife believed they may be over the limit, they conducted a compliance inspection.
In the end, the individuals were found to have 680 shrimp on board their vessel, 440 over the legal limit. In the end, all 3 were issued citations. Curtis, the individual recording officers, had a two day jury trial before a guilty verdict was reached. He was sentenced to 30 days of house arrest. The outcome of the others is unknown at this time.
