As you may know, every now and then I like to ring the changes! Along with the landscape, florals hold a special place in my heart!
It's all about trying to capture the abundance of the blooms without being too literal - bringing my own language to the subject. Again, my palette is fairly muted, just introducing highlights and suggestions of blooms.
I usually work in three stages with these florals, unlike the landscapes which are normally done in one or two. There's the initial 'dancing across the paper with the brush', followed by a strengthening in some areas, and lastly there will be the addition of tiny details...
