It was followed the series finale of the long running NBC sitcom Cheers after 11 years. Anchored by the late Keith Martin, Kathy Bozinski was live at Murray's Pub in Downtown Wilkes-Barre for the Cheers finale celebration, and Vince Sweeney with the weather (Vince Said It Would Be Like This). Recorded from Walton, New York on cable. Keith Martin was born & raised in Scranton and he had 3 runs on TV in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre market including 2 runs as anchor on this station. He began as sports anchor on WDAU Ch 22 from 1972-74 and his anchorman was Derry Bird. Then Keith went to Jacksonville, Florida followed by a 2 year run at the then NBC affiliate WROC Ch 8 Rochester, New York. Keith returned to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and became anchor of WBRE-28 Eyewitness News from 1977-80. Keith was co-anchor to Franklin D Coslett on Eyewitness News at 6:00 and anchored solo at 11:00. In Keith's first run, sports was anchored by Kevin Lynn and the weatherman was Joe Scott until he retired in 1978 followed by future game show host Pat Finn. In early 1980, Diane Ryan became co-anchor at 6:00 & 11:00. Then Keith anchored with Kim Lemon on another NBC affiliate in Pennsylvania WGAL Ch 8 Lancaster from 1980-90. After Keith was fired from WGAL, he returned home to 28 Eyewitness News in his second run as anchor from 1990-2003. Keith's co-anchors were Dawn Timmeney from 1993-2000 and then she was replaced by Charlotte Deleste. Then Keith became Pennsylvania Homeland Security Director from 2003-18 until he retired. He was in the U.S. Army served in Vietnam & Cambodia from 1969-70 plus 34 years in the Army Reserves and the Pennsylvania National Guard. Keith lived in retirement years in South Carolina until he died on February 13, 2022 at age 75.
