The rite of circumcision had been paused for the 40 years that Israel had wandered in the wilderness. Now, God tells Joshua to circumcise all of the men who had been born since they left Egypt as they prepared to conquer the inhabitants of the land. They then celebrated the Passover to mark the new era in Israel’s story.
In circumcision, we see a picture of our belonging to Christ. We are His, that we might serve and glorify Him. But we also see in this story that when we refuse to do what God has called us to do..... 1) there are consequences (all the warriors died) and 2) He will raise up those who will be obedient and do His will (a new generation was commissioned). Will you be obedient to the One who saved you?
