In this chapter we start a four day backpacking trip at the Bishop Pass Trailhead. Our goal was to finish a small section of the Sierra High Route that Dirty missed in 2022. To get there, we hiked up to Bishop Pass, then continued through Dusy Basin to the John Muir Trail. At Lower Palisades Lake, we started hiking off-trail to Cirque Pass, then continued onto Potluck Pass and Knapsack Pass before completing the loop and reaching Bishop Pass again.
Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 are shaping up to be the most adventurous yet! You'll see places in Yosemite and the Southern Sierra that are rarely visited.

**SPACECASE STORY**
Here's a more detailed account of the stolen backpack:
A. Spacecase was staying at a hostel and he left his backpack in the courtyard overnight. Not a good idea, but there's a tall fence around the property.
B. In the morning he realized his backpack was gone. He talked to the staff and they checked the cameras. Sure enough, they catch someone climbing over the fence and taking the backpack.
C. The hostel employee recognizes the person as a local, then looks out the window, and to his surprise, that person is sitting on a bench across the street from the hostel!
D. Spacecase and the employee confront the man, and he becomes aggressive. He's tall, over 300 pounds, and denies stealing the backpack, but when they tell him he's on camera, he fesses up and says he will go get the backpack.
E. Hours go by. No sign of the backpack. Spacecase and the employee find the man walking around town and they threaten to call the police.
F. The man confesses he sold/traded the backpack for m*th.
G. The police are called. It's over $1,000 in lost property. The police say they know the guy who has the backpack and they will try to get it back.
H. Three days go by. We search all the trash cans around town and check the outfitters to see if anyone has tried to sell it.
I. No news from the police. Space Case calls the station and the officer assigned to the case is on vacation for two weeks.
J. Spacecase pieces together gear from other hikers in town (Ally and Juicy) to get back on trail and continue his long trek around the Sierra.
Whew, so moral of the story, sleep next to your backpack, no matter how stinky it is...
