I got a new mould and I can't wait to test it! Today we are creating an all natural, cold process salt soap bar with a very pretty sunflower design. I will be using a variety of different clay powders to create the colours within our soap and I will be scenting it with May Chang (Litsea Cubeba) essential oil.
This is going to be a tricky and time consuming soap to make, but I love the fact that if it works out, we will have a beautiful, all natural soap bar with a naturally coloured sunflower design.
In this video we take you through all the steps involved in creating this soap, from safely mixing the lye water, melting the coconut oil using the heat transfer method, adding the sea salt and clays and finally filling the soap moulds.
The recipe we used is below and will fill one Brambleberry 12 cavity mould (approximately 120g per cured salt bar):
Sodium Hydroxide 128g
Water 256g
Coconut oil 810g
Sweet Almond Oil 90g
Fine Sea Salt (without added anti-caking ingredients) 450g
May Chang Essential Oil 40g
Plus your choice of one of the following clays:
Glacial Marine Clay (for green) 25g
Serbian Blue Clay (for the slate grey/blue) 25g
French Yellow Clay (for the yellow) 25g
French Red Clay (for the red) 25g
