There is danger lurking, and many of us share our homes and gardens with them. These are the silent invasive assassins, steadily wreaking havoc on ecosystems and smothering native species wherever they go and eating into economies and agricultural production, thanks to their ability to hitch a lift all over the world with us humans because we find them beautiful!

Join us as we go out in search of some of the most dangerous ornamental houseplants that have become nuisance invasive weeds in many corners of the world. We take a trip around our local area in Goa, India to see what dangerous ornamental plants we can find . . . you'll probably know most of them!

These plants are not born bad, however thanks to us humans introducing them into ecosystems outside of their range they have become a huge problem. They are usually fast growing, hardy and robust plants, a feature that comes In handy as a houseplant but also adds to their danger. When these plants are introduced into an ecosystem that hasn't had a chance to evolve and adapt to their presence, they are left with a new world, without enemies and with the ability to outcompete all others and over time dominate the landscape.

For more information on invasive species and to find out if your plant is also potentially dangerous, check out the incredible CABI database, which we have linked below
