... Jack The Ripper. Why did they name this trail after a serial killer? Well, come to find out after riding, filming, editing, and posting this video locals informed me the trail is actually named after Vermont raised adventure skier Jack Hannan who tragically passed away in an avalanche in the Pemberton backcountry. He was also instrumental in rebuilding this trail! I've submitted a Trailforks description edit to update the trailforks description so it has this info. It's important when a trail is named after someone that the history is carried through these apps, otherwise people will never know, much like I didn't.
Super steep, drops, gnar, on the edge of cliffs etc. this trail is not to be taken lightly and shouldn't be ridden without expert/pro level skills, and Probably some first aid experience seeing as how it's very remote! We even skipped a few lines due to the high consequences of not making it, being 2k miles from home, and on a multi day bike trip... the risk just wasn't worth the reward in a few spots. But we rode 99% and it still had some spicy lines. It's probably one of the steepest trails I've ridden too. So many chutes on this trail are basically skidders. With all that being said if I had the opportunity to do this trail again I would do it in a heart beat. One of those true adventure style backcountry trails that you can shuttle most of the way up.
